It's Thanksgiving weekend here, so we have Monday off of work! Yay! I love long weekends (who doesn't?). No turkey for us this year, but we've still managed to eat our own body weights in food this weekend, and even snuck in a trip to the last outdoor farmer's market of the year.
I've been plugging away at completing my Home Tour page so that you are able to see all the rooms in our house on one page, with links back to the posts. Although I've shared a lot of our remodel process here, there are a few rooms in our house that were finished prior to blogging. So, over the next couple of weeks the plan is to share those areas. I'm starting with our bathroom that is on the main floor.
First off, I don't think there is a tougher room in our house to photograph then this bathroom. On top of being crazy dark (with zippo natural light), it's also teeny tiny, which means it's almost impossible to show you very much of it at one time.
I will never forget looking at this house before we bought it and seeing this bathroom. It was bright orange....seriously bright....make you want to look away bright. It made me nauseous, so I couldn't wait to change it once we were semi-settled. We repainted the whole thing Benjamin Moore Black Raspberry, which is a deep maroon purple-ish sort of colour. This bathroom also houses the washer and dryer. When we first moved in I was sort of excited to have the laundry on the main floor. After living with it for a few years now though, I totally hate it. There is always laundry sitting on top of the washer and dryer and I'm constantly trying to tidy this bathroom up, as it's the one that guests use. If I can help it, I will never have laundry in a bathroom ever again.
When we moved in there was just wire shelving above the washer and dryer. We took that down and replaced it with 2 giant cabinets from Ikea. The cabinets hold all of the laundry supplies as well as the rest of our cleaning supplies, tea towels and some random Christmas decorations.
I had to stand on the washing machine to try and show you more than just the toilet. (see...you can see my foot....). So, sorry for the shot that looks like it's coming from the ceiling, but it's the only way for you to see the actual layout.
The wall sticker is from Surface Collective, which is a Canadian company that makes awesome stickers that are really modern and unique. They also do custom colours, which this silver is. Although I LOVE the sticker, it was a pain to put on - my fingers hurt for days after applying it.
The little Buddha picture is from an old calendar that I had one year. I took a matt that was bigger than the frame, cut it down and left it off-centre. The frame is just a cheapy one from Wal-Mart.
At the back of the bathroom are the washer and dryer. As I've already said....I am not a big fan. But, the spinning washer that jumps across the floor does at least provide some entertainment while going to the bathroom.
So there you have it - our teeny tiny bathroom/laundry room. Anyone else have laundry in the bathroom? Do you love it or hate it?
