{13 Things}

Wow, thank you guys for your words of encouragement on this {13 things} series!  Since you seem to like it, I guess I'll keep it going.  It's nice to just share random things sometimes.  And you know what's interesting?  It's always these types of posts that gets the most reader response.  I can spend months redoing a kitchen and post a big reveal and it only gets half the response of a post where I speak from my heart.  It proves that blogging is really about connections, and the person behind the words is just as important as the words.

So here we go....

1. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Canadian Studies.  Yes, it's an actual degree.  I sort of fell into it, but really did love the content.  It has absolutely no relevance to what I do for a living now.

2. One of my favourite songs of all time is Nobody Knows Me by Lyle Lovett.  If you haven't heard it, I recommend checking out a live version.  I've embedded a video below - just close your eyes if you don't want to look at him ;)  On a side note...are there are 90210 fans out there (the original version)?  5 points to anyone who can tell me when this song played in that show....and no Googling.  Hint: it was a pivotal moment for Dylan.

3. I am so honoured that both Pam and Jennifer gave my emerald green dresser a shout out on their blogs last month.  Pam from Simple Details painted a great emerald green dresser for her dining room (that uses Ikea hardware in a cool way), and Jennifer from Dimples & Tangles painted a china hutch for her dining room that looks amazing (check out her dining chairs while you are there).  Please go check them out and share the love.

4. I bought this little salt cellar at Urban Barn a couple of weeks ago during one of their accessory sales.  I actually have no idea if it's officially a salt cellar, but that's what we use it for.  It cracks me up every time I see it.

5. I recently discovered this blog.  If you are a Mom (or even if you aren't), read this post.  It'll make you re-examine everything.  Plus Kelle has such a beautiful way of capturing her kids through photos. Inspiring.

6. These flowers from DillyPad on Etsy are amazing.  I can see 3 of them in a line in a hallway.

7. Christine blogged about this tea called Read My Lips from David's Tea.  Something about the combo of little red hearts and chocolate chips made me run and buy my own pack that very night.  Now I am totally hooked.  It's amazing tea - and I am not even really a tea person!  You still have time to grab some for a tea lover in your life for Valentine's Day.

8. I eat oatmeal every. single  morning. for breakfast (except when Mr. Swell makes me his delicious french toast...so I guess that's not every morning...but let's say at least 98% of the time).  I have it with natural peanut butter (I am partial to Adams), honey and milk.  I know some people think that peanut butter in oatmeal is very strange, but I just love it.

9. My Mom is making the most amazing quilt for Fin's big girl room.  I can't wait to see it finished because so far I have only seen it in bits and pieces.  I am already designing a whole room around it in my head.  Now all we need is for her to move to a big bed in a new room in a new house.  One day....I am not rushing to get her out of the crib.

10. Our dog wants to be a person. I know it.  He routinely takes pillows off of the couch for his head, and a couple of weeks ago this is how I found him...surrounded by toys.  He did this all by himself.  Please note that his very comfortable bed is about 3 feet away from him!

11.  Ultimate Cloths.  Have you heard of them?  I loathe cleaning....I'm serious, I hate it.  I like a nice shiny faucet as much as the next gal, but I lack the drive to actually want to shine faucets.  Then I got these cloths.  They are amazing.  They shine up anything with just water.  No chemicals!  Just wet and ring, then wipe away.  They make totally spotless mirrors, and they even clean the ring that tends to form in our bathtub.  I can't say enough good things about them - this, coming from a girl who hates cleaning.  I am starting to sound like an infomercial (which I am sure these are sold on late at night).

12. Raylan Givens.  Man, I love Justified - if for nothing else but to stare at Timothy Olyphant in a cowboy hat.  I'm Albertan, so I do love a good cowboy hat! Any other Raylan fans out there?

13.  I am incredibly honoured to have been a winner in the 2012 Canadian Weblog Awards (1st in crafts and 3rd in new blogs).  Blogging is not about fame or fortune, but I will admit that it is really nice to get a bit of recognition (aside from all you lovely readers who comment your little hearts out <3).  These awards are particularly special to me because they are decided by a jury, not by votes....so it's all about quality content instead of popularity.  I'm thankful that awards like this exist and bring recognition and validity to blogging.

Our basement is so, so, so close to being finished.  The ceiling is 96% done and I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Hopefully I'll be able to put together some basement related posts for you guys in the next couple of weeks.... (I can tell you are waiting waiting in TOTAL anticipation)...
