Ferdinand

Remember the bull that I bought back in the summer at an estate sale?  I bundled him with a bunch of other ceramic stuff, my vintage sewing kit, and the hexagon end tables (and the guy was more than happy that I was moving his 'junk' from his house to our house).

The bull has been sitting around for a good 4 months waiting for his makeover.

My initial thought when I bought him was to just spray paint him white and call it a day.  But you know what happens over time? When I let things sit?  I go nutty, that's what!

So I posted this on Facebook one night:

Ferdinand.  Yup, that was totally his name.  And what did Ferdinand need?  Super sparkly horns.

***this is when Mr. Swell thought I had totally gone off the deep end...naming and glittering a bull***

I carefully applied some glue and then glittered away.  At first I did white glitter, thinking I'd leave Ferdinand a little more subdued.  But, after applying a few layers of white glitter it just wasn't doing it for me, so I scraped it all off and re-glittered with purple.

Poor Ferdinand...he didn't know becoming a flamboyant terrified bull was in his future.

But it's great, right?  Or am I insane?  This bull has some serious personality now.

I am still contemplating spray painting the rest of him white, but I'll leave him until it's warm enough outside to spray paint, and will decide then.  What do you think?  Or should I leave him black so that he has some shred of masculinity (his man-card, if you will...)?

He's made his home on my night stand....and he is quite fun to look at every morning when I turn over to shut off the alarm.

Thank you Facebook friends for enabling me!

  2. How fun!! My Mom used to have a big red bull, a big black bull and 2 small red ones - we also had red vinyl furniture with black plastic accents and red spanish inspired lamps - LOL - I like your decor much better.

    1. Well it totally suits him! I did debate using him a jewellery holder for my rings, but I think I might just end up with glitter all over me every day.....but maybe some gold beads just for show:)
